25 Days of Christmas: Day 18

It just isn't Christmas until Mom's Chex Mix is made!

I remember Abby and I could walk down the stairs and just smell the chex mix baking and then it really felt like it was Christmas time!

It's one of our favorite snacks, and the few, rare, times throughout the rest of the year when we'd get Mom's chex mix, we'd try to make it last as long as we could! {Like the time she sent us a care package to Longwood with some!!}

Anyway, I know you want to try it, so here's the recipe for you!

Ingredients:
  • 1 stick of margarine
  • 1 1/4 tsp. seasoning salt
  • 4 1/2 tsp. worcestershire
  • 2 2/3 cup Corn Chex
  • 2 2/3 cup Rice Chex
  • 2 2/3 cup Wheat Chex {Martin's ended up not having ANY Wheat Chex--even in the back--so I just used more Corn Chex. Still turned out tasty, but definitely not as good!!}
  • 1 cup of salted nuts
Directions:

1. Melt margarine in a microwavable baking dish.

2. Stir in seasoning salt and worcestershire.

3. Add Chex and nuts. {You can also see I threw in a few pretzels too--about a cup.} Mix until all pieces are well coated.

4. Cook on high in the microwave for six minutes, stirring every 2 minutes.

5. Once it's cooked for the full 6 minutes, spread it out on paper towels to cool.

YUM! At home, Mom would have this cooling on the island in the kitchen, and everyone would always sneak pieces as they walked through....haha.
